Peter Tedman began his career as a 15 year old junior recruit in 1973. He qualified as a Clearance Diver in 1975 and served in Clearance Diving Teams One and Two and HMA Ships SUPPLY and STALWART. As a Petty Officer he was selected for service with the SAS Counter Terrorist Squadron.  Peter reached the rank of CPOCD before commissioning in 1989. As an Officer he returned to the SAS Regiment in 1992 as Operations Officer of 1 SAS Squadron and subsequently Second-In-Command as 2 SAS Squadron. Returning to Team Four Peter deployed to Iraq in 1996 as part of a UN team to manage the destruction of the Al-Hakem chemical and biological agent production facility and to East Timor in 1999 as part of the International Force East Timor.

Peter was awarded the Distinguished Service Medal in 2000 for operations in East Timor. On promotion to Commander in 2003 Peter assumed the duties of Deputy Commander of the Mine Warfare and Clearance Diving Group. In 2005 he was posted as Chief of Staff to Commodore Flotillas and in 2007 deployed to the North Arabian Gulf as Chief Staff Officer Operations to Commander Task Force 158. In January 2011 Peter was posted as the Commander Maritime Task Group for Operation Queensland Flood Assist.

Peter was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia in 2014 completing full time service as Commanding Officer HMAS Moreton in May 2016 and soon after transferred to the Naval Reserve.  He continues to serve as one of the Queensland Governor’s Honorary Military Aide-de-Camp.
